David's Biography & Career History

My name is David Eichhorn and I am an alcoholic.  I have been in recovery for over twenty years and it was through my own recovery that my passion to help others find the same peace and serenity I found began.  I went into treatment on my 21st birthday and when I came out of treatment, I completed college and received my degree in Addiction Studies.
After graduation, my first position was as a youth counselor at Sunburst Homes in Wisconsin where I helped troubled youths in an inpatient facility.  My first role as a drug and alcohol counselor came when I began at Sacred Heart Hospital in Wisconsin.  Here I counseled men and women in the hospital’s inpatient drug and alcohol rehabilitation wing.  These rewarding work experiences began to ignite the passion I felt for helping others with their struggles with addiction.
Next I moved to Minnesota where I was hired at the Hazelden Treatment Facility as a drug and alcohol counselor and then became a unit supervisor of one of the men’s units.  The work experience I received at Hazelden enhanced my knowledge even further in the field of addiction which later provided an opportunity to grow in another direction where I left and became an interventionist.  I maintained continuing education credits throughout which provided me with further credentials in the field.  For six years I accomplished hundreds of successful interventions for a Minnesota based company where I extensively traveled throughout the United States and administered interventions internationally as well.
My experiences have enabled me to develop a strong clinical skill set. Helping individuals get to the heart of the matter with their addictions and start finding the answers they ultimately have inside. I have always believed that we are only as sick as our secrets and by keeping those secrets, only prolong the addiction and allow us to stay trapped inside of ourselves.
My passion is my work, which in turn speaks to those I have come in contact with for over two decades of my own recovery. There was somebody I was able to rely on in my life twenty one years ago and that is the type of care and concern I offer to others. I seek to help the next alcoholic, addict or family member that has been affected by these life threatening burdens, to begin a new life, in recovery, filled with happiness and peace.
